Core concepts

Four building blocks power everything in Linyup. Once you know how they connect, every screen in the app makes sense.

Subscriptions ──unlock──▶ Activities ──scheduled as──▶ Sessions
  • Contacts hold subscriptions and book sessions.
  • Subscriptions unlock access to activities.
  • Activities are scheduled as sessions on the calendar.

Contacts are the people side of Linyup. Leads, trialists, members and alumni all live in one list. Everything else attaches to a contact: the subscriptions they hold, their affiliation status and the sessions they have booked. When someone books or signs up through one of your public pages, a contact is created or matched automatically.

Key terms

  • Contact: one person’s record, from first touch to long-time member.
  • Subscription holder: a contact with an active plan.
  • Affiliation status: how a contact belongs (member, trial, alumni).

How contacts move from first booking to member is covered in Contacts & the funnel.

Subscriptions & affiliations — ongoing access and belonging

Section titled “Subscriptions & affiliations — ongoing access and belonging”

Subscriptions are the recurring plans your members pay for. A plan can do more than bill: it can unlock exactly the activities it covers. Affiliations track belonging without money, such as whether someone is an active member, on trial or alumni. Together they answer two different questions about a person: what can they access, and how do they belong.

Key terms

  • Plan: a subscription type with its price and billing cycle.
  • Access gating: an activity can require a subscription that covers it.
  • Affiliation: a membership status independent of payment.

Activities are the catalogue of what you offer. Each one is either:

  • a class: a subject you schedule onto the calendar, like Judo Fundamentals, or
  • an appointment: time with a specific person, booked from the availability they publish.

An activity carries its own price and access rule (open to everyone, members only, or reserved for specific subscriptions). That is what makes it a distinct offering rather than a label.

Key terms

  • Class: a subject you schedule as sessions people book a seat in.
  • Appointment: an offering booked from a person’s published availability.
  • Event: a separate format for one-offs like camps, workshops or exams.
  • Access tier: who may book: open, members, or specific subscriptions.

Sessions are the calendar itself: Tuesday’s 7 pm class, not the class in general. Bookings connect people to a session: one contact, one spot, one time.

Three shapes share the calendar. What separates them is who puts the time there:

Shape How it gets on the calendar
Class You schedule it. The session sits on the calendar with a set number of seats before anyone books, and people book a seat in it.
Appointment Nothing exists until someone books. The coach publishes their availability, and the session is created the moment a client takes a slot. One booking per slot.
Event A one-off with its own registration, such as a camp, a workshop or a grading. It stands on its own rather than being an instance of an activity.

Key terms

  • Session: one scheduled occurrence, whether you placed it or a booking created it.
  • Availability: when a coach is free; appointments are booked out of it.
  • Booking: a contact’s reserved spot.
